Lipid Lowering Agents Flashcards
Statins MOA? Accumulation of?
Inhibit conversion of HMG- CoA to mevalonate=>Decreased LDL
HMG- CoA
Statins AE?
AE: Hepatotoxicity and decreased ATP=>myopathy
Bile acid Resins (cholestyramine, colestipol) MOA?
MOA: Prevent intestinal reabsorption of bile acids=>upregulation of LDL receptors=>Decreased LDL
Bile acid Resins AE?
- Hypertriglyceride
2. Decreased absorption of drugs and FAT soluble vitamins (like Vit. K)
Ezetimibe MOA?
Prevent cholesterol absorption at small intestine=>Decreased LDL
Fibrates (Gemfirbrozil) MOA?
MOA: Upregulate Lipoprotein lipase=> increased TG clearance=> decreased TG
Activates PPAR=>increase HDL
Fibrates AE?
Gallstones
Niacin MOA?
Inhibits lipolysis=>increased HDL
Niacin AE? AE is blocked with?
Flushing via PGE; blocked with NSAIDs
