LINE Flashcards
LINE 1
In ‘Reverse’, quick, expressive, visible brushstrokes give the painting a frenzied look, making it uncomfortable for the viewer. These short, sharp, directional lines makes the woman’s face look as though her skin is choppy from the surgical procedure.
LINE 2
Saville has used repetition of long, curved lines which help move our eye
around the painting towards the focal point of the lips. The sweeping curved lines give the impression of big swollen features that have been created as the result of her surgery.
LINE 3
In No woman no cry, the criss - cross lines that are very obvious in the background actually continue over the ladies face. This creates the idea of a vail going over her face. This adds to the sad mood of the painting showing the woman is in mourning.
