Lincosamides Flashcards
Clindamycin
Bacterial static or cidal depending on concentration and susceptibility; when bacteriocidal concentrations are reached, clindamycin exhibits time-dependent killing
Effective against many anaerobes, gram positive aerobic cocci, toxoplasma; excellent activity against staphylococci and streptococci; ineffective against gram negative bacteria
Binds to 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting peptide bond formation and protein synthesis of the bacterial cell wall
has activity against a variety of protozoal organisms, but not effective against tachyzoites; limited CNS penetration
Labeled for treatment of skin infections
Use with caution with severe liver or renal dysfunction
AE: esophageal injuries if dry pilled, GI, hypersalivation in cats
