Sodium Iodide
A
Iodides have been used for sporotrichosis (also actinomycosis/actinobacillosis in ruminants)
exact mechanism unknown - some effect on granulomatous inflammatory process; little if any in vitro antibiotic activity
metallic taste; cats like sodium iodide better than potassium iodide; dairy or fatty food or liquid may improve palatability
AE: iodism (excessive tearing, vomiting, anorexia, nasal discharge, muscle twitching, cardiomyopathy, scaly haircoats/dandruff, hyperthermia, weight gain, coughing, inappetence, diarrhea); cats may be more prone to developing toxicity, especially hepatotoxicity
