Q

Trade Protectionism

A

Protectionism limited steel production for UK as cheap Chinese steel was ‘dumped’ onto the market at subsidised prices so many UK producers had to put their plants up for sale e.g. TaTa Steel

However, the WTO makes protectionism difficult as they ban tarrifs on imported goods to protect those producing them

Q

Immigration

A

People want immigration control as they believe cheap migrant labour undercuts local wages, and it causes increased demand/ pressure for services

Stopping UK immigration is difficult as there’s already shortage in knowledge economy, and the UK needs overseas uni students

However, now the UK has left the EU it may be easier to restict future immigration
