How are the external lights switched on and off?
Switches located on the ‘external lights’ section on the overhead panel.
How many navigation lights are installed on each wing?
Two.
One primary light and a secondary light that illuminates automatically when the primary light fails.
How many rotating beacons are installed?
Two. One on top and another underneath.
In addition to the beacon lights, what also comes on when the beacon light switch is turned on?
The flight data recorder.
In addition to the strobe lights, what also comes on when the beacon switch is turned on?
The flight data recorder.
How are the landing and taxi lights operated?
By switches located on the lower left of the overhead panel.
When will the nose gear light come on?
When a ‘down lock’ condition is sensed on the nose landing gear and the nose gear light switch is turned on.
What is the main difference in the lenses of the landing lights and taxi lights?
The taxi lights have a diffused lens so as not to blind other pilots when used on the ground.
When to the taxi recognition lights illuminate?
When the onside landing light switch is pressed or the taxi recognition light switch is pressed.
What is the purpose of the emergency lights?
To illuminate critical areas in the event of an emergency.
Can the intensity of the compass light be changed?
Yes. In the ON position the light is full. In the DIM position the light is dimmed. There are only two settings.
If the battery bus is the only bus powered on the aircraft, is flight deck lighting affected?
Yes. Certain panels will not illuminate.
What does the display lighting knob control?
The intensity of the onside PFD and MFD screens.
How is the intensity of the EICAS screens adjusted?
By a switch on the centre pedestal.
How are indicator lights tested?
Using the lamp test switch. Either position 1 or 2 will test all indicator lights.
When do the no smoking lights illuminate when the no smoking light switch is in the ‘auto’ position?
Automatically when the landing gear is extended or when the cabin altitude exceeds 10 000 ft.
When does the seatbelt sign illuminate when the seatbelt light switch is in the ‘auto’ position?
When the landing gear is extended, when the flap position is greater than 0º or when the cabin altitude exceeds 10 000 ft.
When do the ‘no smoking’ and ‘seatbelt’ lights automatically illuminate?
When the cabin altitude exceeds 10 000 ft.
What comprises the emergency lights?
Exit signs. Ceiling emergency flood lights. Floor path emergency lights. Floor level emergency lights. Exterior emergency lights.
How are the emergency lights powered?
4 independent rechargeable batteries.
Recharged by the DC essential bus.
How long will the emergency lights battery packs last?
10 minutes.
When the emergency light switch is in the ‘arm position’, when do the emergency lights come on automatically?
In the event of a loss of essential AC or essential DC power.
How are the escape path markings illuminated?
Wit photo luminescent strips that require 15 minutes exposure to light.
Can the flight attendant’s emergency light switch position over ride the flight deck emergency light position?
Yes.
What powers the entrance dome light?
Main battery direct bus.
