How are the external lights switched on and off?
Switches located on the ‘external lights’ section on the overhead panel.
How many navigation lights are installed on each wing?
Two.
One primary light and a secondary light that illuminates automatically when the primary light fails.
How many rotating beacons are installed?
Two. One on top and another underneath.
In addition to the beacon lights, what also comes on when the beacon light switch is turned on?
The flight data recorder.
In addition to the strobe lights, what also comes on when the beacon switch is turned on?
The flight data recorder.
How are the landing and taxi lights operated?
By switches located on the lower left of the overhead panel.
When will the nose gear light come on?
When a ‘down lock’ condition is sensed on the nose landing gear and the nose gear light switch is turned on.
What is the main difference in the lenses of the landing lights and taxi lights?
The taxi lights have a diffused lens so as not to blind other pilots when used on the ground.
When to the taxi recognition lights illuminate?
When the onside landing light switch is pressed or the taxi recognition light switch is pressed.
What is the purpose of the emergency lights?
To illuminate critical areas in the event of an emergency.
Can the intensity of the compass light be changed?
Yes. In the ON position the light is full. In the DIM position the light is dimmed. There are only two settings.
If the battery bus is the only bus powered on the aircraft, is flight deck lighting affected?
Yes. Certain panels will not illuminate.
What does the display lighting knob control?
The intensity of the onside PFD and MFD screens.
How is the intensity of the EICAS screens adjusted?
By a switch on the centre pedestal.
How are indicator lights tested?
Using the lamp test switch. Either position 1 or 2 will test all indicator lights.
