Light Dependent ReeCtions Of Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the general formula for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide +water +light energy = glucose and oxygen
What are the key sites of photosynthesis in plant cells?
Stroma Stroma lammalae Thylakoids Grana Inner and outer membrane
What is the Stroma?
The fluid like substance within the inner membrane
What do the stroma lamellae do?
Connect grana
What are thylakoids?
Round disks that contain chlorophyl pigments
What are grana?
Stacks of thylakoids
What is chlorophyl?
A pigment that reflects the colour green
What is so significant about chlorophyl A?
It is the only pigment that can transfer light energy to the reactions of photosynthesis.
What is chlorophyl b and what does it do?
Chlorophyl B is an accessory pigment that can harness light energy and pass it on to chlorophyl a where it can then be used in the reactions of photosynthesis.
What is stage 1 of the light reactions?
Photoexcitation
What does photosystem 1 contain?
Chlorophyl a 700
What are the three ways a proton gradient is made
Water splits releasing H protons into the lumen
Pq pulls hydrogens out of the stroma and down to the lumen
NADP reductase pulls hydrogens from stroma to reduce NADP
Make sure you can draw and explain the light reactions of photosynthesis
Draw it
