ATP Flashcards
What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine Triphosphate
How is energy released from ATP?
By breaking off the terminal/exterior phosphate group
What type of reaction breaks down ATP?
Hydrolysis
What type of reaction forms ATP?
Condensation reactions during cellular respiration
How does ADP turn into ATP?
ADP get’s phosphorylated which means it adds a phosphate group
What are the two types of Phosphorylation?
Substrate level Phosphorylation and Oxidative Phosphorylation
What happens during Substrate level Phosphorylation?
An enzyme is used to add a phosphate to ADP
What happens during Oxidative Phosphorylation?
Redox reactions force a Hydrogen proton to move from the membrane of the mitochondria to the matrix of the Mitochondria. When this happens it stimulates ADP to phosphorylate and form ATP.
