Light Flashcards
….that create Iight are sources
Luminous objects
How do we see non-luminous objects
Because light bounces off them and enters our eyes.
Describe the difference between transparent and translucent
Transparent allows all light through whereas translucent allows some light through and absorbs some of that light
What is the term when no light is allowed through an object?
Opaque
What does emit mean?
To give out light eg Christmas tree lights
What does transit mean?
Allows light through
What does absorb mean, in terms of light?
Not all the light will be transmitted, some will get lost through the object
What does reflect mean?
Light bounces off the surface of the object
What colours does white light consist of?
It consists of 7 colours: red orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet
The angle of incidence is always equal or different to the angle of reflection?
Equal
Refraction is…
The bending of light. It occurs when the medium light is travelling through changes.
How do we see?
Light enters the eye through the pupil, the size of the pupil is altered by the iris the cornea and the lens focus light onto the retina. The retina contains two sensitive cells called rods and cones when the light hits. These cells. Chemical reactions produce electrical impulses that travel via the optic nerve to the brain.
A football is blue and white. Why does the ball look blue and white if a white light shines of shines on it?
The white areas of the ball have reflected all the colours of the light spectrum and the blue part of the ball will have absorbed all the colours except blue which is reflected.
A football is blue and white. What would happen to the colour of the ball if a red filter was placed in front of the light?
It will be black, the filter would only let the red light be reflected and the ball cannot do this as it it doesn’t have red on the ball.
