8
Q

What are vortex generators

A

Vortex Generators are small plates or aerofoils set at an angle to the airflow

Re-energise the Boundary Layer by creating small Vortices that scavenge the Boundary Layer and entrain the faster smoother airflow onto it

The increase in Drag is minor compared to
the increase in Lift.

9
Q

What is blowing or sucking air

A

Blowing Air re-energises the Boundary Layer using air ejected at high speed in the same direction as the Boundary Layer.

Sucking Air involves drawing off the Boundary Layer’s sub-layer through Slots or Porous Skin.

This reduces the thickness of the Boundary layer replacing it with faster moving air.

What is a slat

A

A portion of the leading edge mounted on tracks so it can extend outward and create a duct to direct air over the surface

14
Q

What is the difference between ground and flight spoilers

A

Spoilers are devices on the wing to “Spoil” or reduce the lift being made

Flight spoilers are deployed at controlled angles during flight to increase descent rate or control roll

Ground spoilers are fully deployed immediately on landing to greatly reduce lift and increase drag.
