Q

How does Angle of attack affect lift

A

An increase in Angle of Attack gives an

increase in Lift

Q

How does aerofoil shape affect lift

A

A High Lift Wing (high Thickness Chord Ratio) is going to speed up the airflow more creating more lift than an aerofoil of high-speed design (low Thickness Chord Ratio)

Q

how does wing area affect lift

A

Lift is directly proportional to the wing area and is measured in square feet.

A wing with a large area will produce more lift than one with small area.

Q

how does air density affect lift

A

Density DECREASES with altitude. When Density is low, Lift will be low

Airspeed must increase as Density decreases to maintain the same Angle of Attack at level flight.

6
Q

How does air velocity affect lift

A

Lift varies with the square of Velocity

There are two essential conditions for lift:
• Relative Motion
• Pressure Differential.
