life cycle assesment and ecosystem service Flashcards

1
Q

what are the main phases of LCA

A

1.Goals and scopes:
Goals: Intended application, target group
Scope: Describes the most important methodological choices, assumptions and limitations.
Functions
Functional units
Refrence flow
data quality
systemic boundaries
allocation

2.LC’s inventory:
Making a model of the product life cycle with all the environmental inflows and outflows

Data collected and calculations performed are used to determine the system’s input and output.

3.LC’s Impact assessment:

Understanding the environmental relevance of all the inputs and outputs

  1. LCA interpretation

Analyze results, identify hotspots and strategies to reduce environmental effect

Q

Comment about livestock ecosystem services

A

Livestock farming systems offer various ecosystem services such as:
Provisioning services: Food, Fiber, fuel, genetic variation
Regulating services: climate regulation, water purification and pollination
Cultural services: Tourism and cultural heritage

However, they can also harm the environment through greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution,n and biodiversity loss.

Q

What is LCA and its filled of application

A

Life cycle assessment is a method for evaluating the environmental impacts of a product, process, or service throughout its entire life cycle. LCA measures the environmental burdens and benefits from resource extraction to disposal. It identifies areas of improvement, supports sustainable practises and guides decisions for eco-friendly and efficient systems.
LCA uses direct, management and model indicators to asses impacts.
LCA can measure emissions and impacts, while the ES framework helps interpret results address trade-offs with other environmental issues.

LCA focuses on environmental impact, while the ES framework highlights benefits. Together, they provide a more complete view of sustainability
