LG 1.3 Plant and Animal Tissues (PLANT TISSUES) Flashcards
There are 3 types of plant tissue systems namely:
Dermal Tissue System. Vascular Tissue System and Ground Tissue System
It is the outer protective covering (plant tissue system).
Dermal Tissue System
It carries out transport of materials between the shoot and root systems (plant tissue system).
Vascular Tissue System
It is neither dermal or vascular; it provides support and metabolism to the plant (plant tissue system).
Ground Tissue System
There are 2 types of plant tissues namely:
Meristematic Tissue and Permanent Tissues
It is composed of actively dividing cells that form plant tissues.
Meristematic Tissue
There are 2 types of meristematic tissues namely:
Apical Meristem and Lateral Meristem
It makes plants taller and longer; it is found in buds and tips of plants.
Apical Meristem
It makes plants bigger and thicker; it is also known as vascular or cork cambium.
Lateral Meristem
It is a non dividing tissue and is composed of tissue; It is either living or dead.
Permanent Tissue
Under permanent tissue are 2 sub units namely:
Simple Tissue and Complex Tissue
It is composed of only one type of cell.
Simple Tissue
It is composed of more than 1 type of cells that function together as 1 unit.
Complex Tissues
Under the simple tissue are 3 sub-units, which are ___. ___ and ___.
Parenchyma, Collenchyma and Sclerenchyma
It’s a part of the simple tissue that is is a living tissue of cells that are thin walled; It performs most of the metabolic functions.
Parenchyma
