The litteral meanings of a word, the dictionary definition
What are synonyms?
2 or more words with similar denotations
What is a Lexical field?
A group of words in a text that are connected by subject
What is a semantic field?
It is a group of words in a text that are connected by connotations
What is the register of a text?
How complicated the words in the text are
What is fluctuating register ?
When a texts register goes from high to low throughout
What is high-frequency lexis?
Words that are commonly used
What is low-frequency register?
Words that aren’t commonly used
What is jargon?
Language specific to a profession or group
What is monosyllabic lexis?
Words that are made of a single syllable
What is disyballic lexis?
Words that are made from two syllables

Words that are made out of three or more syllables
