What is the mechanism of Levetiracetam
Anticonvulsant. Believed to terminate seizure activity by blocking some calcium channels and binding synaptic proteins to modulate neurotransmitter release.
What is the indication for Levetiracetam?
Seizures that continue after two doses of parental Midazolam.
What are the contraindications of Levetiracetam?
●Known severe allergy.
What are the cautions for Levetiracetam?
There are none.
What is the adult IV dose of Levetiracetam?
●2g. Repeat once after 10mins if seizure occurs.
Administer into a running line over 5mins.
What are the side effects of Levetiracetam?
●There are none.
What is the onset time for Levetiracetam?
10mins.
What is the duration of effect for Levetiracetam?
6-8 hours.
What is the preparation of Levetiracetam?
Ampoule containing 500mg/5ml.
Draw up x4 ampoules (2g/20ml) and dilute to 40ml.
Administer over 5 minutes.
