What is the definition of a regular lever ?
A rigid. bar that rotates around a fixed point and it is used to apply a force against a resistance
What kind of actions are used for a third class lever ?
Running, Jumping, Kicking
Use of hamstring or biceps
What is an example of when a 2nd class lever is used ?
Going onto your tiptoes on the beam
Fulcrum = joint at the toes
Effort = gastrocnemius
Resistance = body weight goes through the middle of the foot
What is the effort arm ?
Distance between the fulcrum and the effort
What is the resistance arm ?
Distance between the fulcrum and resistance
What is mechanical disadvantage ?
When the resistance arm is greater than the effort arm
What is mechanical advantage ?
When the effort arm is longer than the resistance arm
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a second class lever ?
Advantage = large forces lift the whole body weight
Disadvantage = slow, with a limited range of movement
What are the advantages and disadvantages of first and third class levers ?
Advantages = large range of movement, resistance is moved quickly
Disadvantage = cannot apply much force to move an object
