3 Characteristics of Moderate Sedation
- Patient responds purposefully to touch/verbal stimulation
- Respiratory and cardiovascular functions are usually maintained
- Administration and monitoring by RN or provider performing procedure
3 Characteristics of Minimal Sedation
: 1 - Responds normally to verbal stimulation
2 - Cardivascular & Respiratory functions unaffected
3 - Administration & Monitoring by RN or provider performing procedure
4 Characteristics of GA
1 -No response is elicited, even with painful stimuli
2 - Airway intervention usually required - most often intubation
3 - Cardiovascular and spontaneous respiratory functions may be inadequate
4 - Administration and monitoring by anesthesia personnel
5 Characteristics of Deep Sedation
1 - Repeated stimulation may be required to elicit a purposeful response
2 - Respiratory functions may be inadequate -airway may need intervention - Ambu bag, intubation
3 - Cardiovascular functions are usually maintained
4 - Administration and monitoring by anesthesia personnel
