Levels of Organization in Multicellular Organisms Flashcards
how are cells organised
cells => tissues => organ => system => organism
how are tissues formed
large numbers of the same type of cell occur together to form a tissue
what are tissues
tissues are groups of similar cells which perform a common function eg. muscle tissue and nerve tissue
how are organs formed
a group of different tissues which have a common function form an organ
what are organs
the heart is an organ composed of different tissues such as muscle, nerve and connective tissue. all these tissues work towards the common function of pumping blood. The stem, root and leaves are examples of plant organs
how are systems formed
a group of different organs with a common function form a system
how are organisms formed
the various systems (eg. respiratory system, circulatory system, nervous system, excretory system and reproductive system) work together to form a living organism
