Levels of classification Flashcards
Name the levels of classification.

What’s the phrase to remember the levels of classification?

All living things are divided into three domains. Name the three domains.
Archaea, Bacteria, Eukarya
What is archaea?
Archaea is a single cell and does not have a nucleus.
What is bacteria?
Bacteria is single cell and does not have a nucleus.
What is eukarya?
Some of eukarya is single celled and some may have many cells.
It is broken down into four kingdoms: Protists, fungi, plants and animals.
All have nucleus in their cell.
Name the four kingdoms of eukarya.
Animals
Fungi
Plants
Protist
Name two facts of the Fungi kingdom (ex. mushrooms)
Most are multi-cellular but not all.
Absorb food from living or once living (dead) organisms
Name two facts about the protist kingdom (ex. algae).
Some are unicellular and some are multi-cellular
Some make their own food and some do not.
Name three facts about the animal kingdom.
1) All are multi-cellular
2) They do not make their own food
3) Broken up into 30 different phyla (phylums)
Describe the levels of living things.
Under the first level of living things is archaea, bacteria, and eukarya. Under eukarya is protist, fungi, plants and animals.
Protists
Protists can be either single celled or multicellular. They live in water and in moist places on the land. some must get their food. others make their own food. Algae are a type of protist.
Fungi
Most fungi are made of many cells. they live on land and absorb food from other living and nonliving things. mushrooms and yeast are two different types of fungi.
Plants
Plants have tissues and organs made of many cells. they live on land and in water. they use the sun’s energy to make their own food. ferns and maple trees are types of plants
Animals
Animals have many cells. they live on land and in water. they get their food by eating other organisms such as plants spiders and giraffes are examples of animals.
