What is normal for discharge?
Normal or physiological discharge, is a slight discharge that increases in volume and viscosity at mid-cycle; produced, stored and secreted by KID, transformed and distributed by SP, governed by Ren Mai, controlled by Dai Mai.
What is the cause of Vaginal Discharge?
Bio-Medicine
Bio-medicine: local pathology of lower genital tract
—vaginitis from Candida or Trichomonas infection, bothersome but generally harmless.
In few cases, excessive discharge is a symptom of uterine carcinoma
ETIOLOGY
- Irregular diet, excessive physical work, overwork
- Emotional strain
- Invasion of external Dampness
What is the TCM Pathology for Leukorrhea?
-Spleen, Liver, and Kidney, the Ren and Dai Mai channels are involved: KD produces, stores and secretes discharge; transformed and distributed by the SP; governed by the Ren Mai; controlled by the Dai Mai
-Discharge Profuse: Kidney deficiency Profuse, red discharge, dilute or sticky: Yin def. + Damp heat Dilute, watery: Cold or Deficiency Thick, sticky: Heat or Dampness White sticky: Spleen deficiency
-Color
White: COLD
Yellow, Red, Green: HEAT
What does the general odor indicate in Leukorrhea?
Odor
Generally indicates Heat
What does a leathery smell indicate?
Leathery smell indicates Heat
What does a fishy smell indicate?
Fishy smell may indicate Cold
What is a deficient discharge
Light colored, thin,
Watery discharge without odor indicates
deficiency or Cold
What is an excess discharge?
Dark, thick, dense discharge
What does an offensive odor indicate?
indicates excess or Heat
What is excessive vaginal discharge in TCM patterns?
- It is a Dampness pattern, called “dai” due to the inability of the Dai Mai to bind.
- The Dai Mai communicates directly with the Ren and Du Mai and if they are diseased, the Dai Mai is also…’ Fu Xing Zhu
What is a “Slack Dai Mai”?
- A slack Dai Mai allows Qi to sink,
- Dampness infuses downward…Kidney deficiency allows Dai Mai to become slack, Dampness results from Spleen deficiency.
