Abdominal Masses Flashcards
Abdominal masses which are:
- immovable
- Pain in fixed location
- usually more severe
- Blood Masses
- Arise from Yin organs
Ji ….Abdominal Masses
Abdominal masses that:
- Come & go
- no fixed location
- movable pain
- Arise from Yang organs
- easier to treat
- Qi Masses
Ju…..Abdominal Masses
Jia….
Movable
Zheng…
Fixed, …do not move
Qi Stagnation
Non substantial
Blood Stasis
Substantial….phlegm
Test question ….
Masses come and go
Movable ..upon palpation
Change location
Qi Stagnation masses
Test question
Masses are fixed
Not movable
Feel hard
If pain, fixed & stabbing
Blood Stasis masses
Test Question
Masses feel soft
Fixed location
Usually, no pain
Phlegm masses
Masses firm or hard Immobile No change with pressure Defined irregular edges Area of increased tissue density
Often painful w/ pressure
Fixed, found in same spot
Tend to grow in organs or muscle tissue
Appear quite dense & irregular on ultrasound
Blood Stasis masses
Masses well defined, smooth, soft or rubbery
Rounded, fixed, may move slightly over basement tissue
Not painful or tender
May impinge on other pain producing structure
May grow on organ surface or in between tissue
In laparoscopy, surface shiny and pearl-like or opaque
Phlegm masses
Masses feel warmer than surrounding tissue
Usually soft & squishy
Heat masses
Masses soft and feel cooler than surrounding tissue.
Abdominal wall cool, pale, and lax
Non tender, mild on palpitation usually
Cold masses
Not transporting & tranforming
Leads to stagnation if Qi & Blood
Underlying Qi Deficiency
Resolve pathogenic factor Move Qi Invigorate Blood Resolve phlegm Pathogen weak Qi is strong
Early stage masses
