Leukocytes Flashcards
Eosinophils have granules of which color
Red
Eosinophil characteristics
Weak phagocyte and they also exhibit chemotaxis
Infections that eosinophils fight against
Parasitic infections (Schistosomiasis, Trichinosis, etc)
In Allergy, Mast Cells and Basophils produce Eosinophilic chemotactic factor and eosinophils reach there.
What do they do there?
Eosinophils phagocytize the allergen-antibody complex and detoxify the inflammation.
Eosinophils attach themselves to the parasite. What do they release to kill the parasites?
Hydrolytic enzymes
Reactive oxygen form
Larvacidal polypeptide
What molecules are released by basophils and mast cells?
Heparin
Histamine
Bradykinin
Serotonin
Antibodies (IgE) attach to the basophil and when the antigen reacts with the antibody, basophils release chemicals.
What do these chemical do?
Local vascular reactions that may cause allergy
