Leukocytes Flashcards
What are the two main types of leukocytes?
Granulocytes & Agranulocytes
Neutrophils
50-70% of WBC. Most common, phagocytize bacteria
Eosinophils
2-4% of WBC. Bi-lobe nucleus, fight parasites, attack tumors. has unclear role in allergies, asthma and immune response
Basophils
.5-1% of WBC. lease common. looks like blob of ink. histamine(causes inflammatory response) and heparin(keeps blood from clotting) release. Responds to allergic reactions`
What are the 3 types of granulocytes?
Neutrophils, Eosinophils, & Basophils
What are the 2 types of agranulocytes? `
Lymphocytes & Monocytes
Lymphocytes
25% of WBC. Same size as blood cell. Immune response to viral infection. They are a direct attack and have antibodies
Monocytes
3-8% of WBC. largest. kidney shaped nucleus, phagocytosis, fight chronic infections
