when it used as subject’s particle,
it will pronoun as ‘wa’
は(wa) shows the biggest subject in the whole sentence.
Be careful
When you learn more, you may find that Japanese usually skip speaking subject.
ESPECIALLY when the subject is わたしは(I am) ,
because they seldom emphasize themselves whatever facing public or strangers.
But you can still get the point through the whole conversation.

Basically, Japanese changing is through adding changes at the sentence last.
If you are facing an extremely complicated sentence,
try to understand it from the last,
it may help you to clear your mind.

Try to feel the difference between these two sentence.
Sentence A
これ は えんぴつ です
kore wa ennpitsu desu

Sentence B

は(wa)
は(wa )has a strong affect calling people to pay attention to the following sentence.
When speaker want to give stress on the following information around subject,
they tend to use はwa as subject’s particle.
これ は えんぴつ です(This is pencil.)
May be some one asking you,’What’s this?’
えんぴつ は これ です(Pencil is this.)
May be some one asking your help to find a pencil from different kinds of pens.
