Descriptive adjectives that precede the noun they modify:
beau (bel) beautiful/fine bon good court short grand great/large gros big/stout/thick jeune young joli pretty long long mauvais bad nouveau (nouvel) new petit little/small vieux (vieil) old
(bel, nouvel, and vieil are used instead of beau, nouveau, and vieux before masculine singular nouns beginning with a vowel or mute h.)
