What are the 3 branches of government?
Executive, Legislative and Judicial
Who is the head of the Louisiana Executive branch?
Governor - Position/title, Bobby Jindal
What does the governor do?
sees that laws are carried out. Chooses heads of state departments, call special meetings of legistlature and veto bills
What does the Lieutenant Governor do?
presides over Senate and names senate committee members. Act for the governor if governor is out of state
What does the Secretary of State do?
handles state records, gives permission to start new businesses and gives final total in elections
What does the Attoreny General do?
represents Louisiana in legal matters and head the legal department
What it the legislative branch?
Senators and house of Representatives
What does the Legislative branch do?
senator and representatives debat and approve proposed bills and send them to governor to approve. Bills become law if governor approves.
What does the Judicial branch do?
Decides how to apply the laws, made up of Supreme Court, Appeals Court and district courts
What does the Supreme court do?
Decides how to apply the laws
What does the Appeals court do?
When district court rulings are questioned , the case is brought to the appeals court
What does the District Court do?
decides how the law applies in each case (local level)
What does the Treasurer Do?
collects and distributes state taxe funds
What does the Superintendant of Education do?
Oversees public schools in Lousisiana
What does the Commissioner of Agriculture do?
is in charge of all matter having to do with raising of crops (plants) and animals
