What is a community?
A place where people live, work, play and have fun together.
Business, homes and places that entertain us can be found in a community.
What are characteristics of an urban community?
Located in a city.
Tall buildings and busy streets.
Large populations (plenty of people)
Example - think of New Orleans.
What are characteristics of a suburban community?
Close to a large city.
Houses along the streets.
Trees by the streets and houses.
Many people who live here have to drive to the city (urban) to go to work.
Example - think of Mimosa or Kenner or Metairie.
What are characteristics of a rural community?
Countryside
Towns are far apart.
Small populations (few people).
Lots of hills, forests, or grassy fields.
Example - think of a house in the middle of the country or the forest.
What is a rule?
Something that parents, teachers, or owners of homes or buildings create that others must obey.
What are some examples of rules?
Clean your room.
Raise your hand before speaking.
Walk in the hallways.
No pets allowed in apartment complex.
What is a law?
A rule that is made by the government that everyone must obey.
What are some examples of laws?
Stop at stop signs.
Wear your seat belt.
Go to school.
Obey the speed limit.
