Lesson 9.1 Vocabulary Flashcards
aerobic
term often used to describe moderate to vigorous physical activity that can be sustained for a long time because the body can supply adequate oxygen to continue activity; means “with oxygen”
anaerobic activity
activity so intense that your body cannot supply adequate oxygen to sustain it for a long time
anaerobic capacity
the ability of the body to perform all-out exercise using the body’s high energy fuel sources (ATP-PC and glycolytic systems); commonly measured using the Wingate test
circuit training
performance of different exercises one after another, separated only by brief breaks, with the goal of keeping your heart rate in your target zone and building various components of health-related fitness
leisure time
time free from work and other commitments; also called discretionary time
lifetime sport
sport in which you’re likely to participate throughout your life
recreation
something you do during your free time
sport
physical activity that is competitive (has winners and losers) and has well-established rules
vigorous aerobics
aerobic activities intense enough to elevate your heart rate above your threshold of training and into your target zone for cardiorespiratory endurance
vigorous recreation
activity done during your free time that is fun and typically noncompetitive but intense enough to elevate your heart rate above your threshold of training and into your target zone for cardiorespiratory endurance
vigorous sport
sport activity that elevates your heart rate above your threshold of training and into your target zone for cardiorespiratory endurance
