Lesson 9: How the companions valued the Sunnah Flashcards
Statement of Ali about if he hears a narration about the messenger ﷺ
-
كُنْتُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَدِيثًا نَفَعَنِي اللَّهُ بِمَا شَاءَ مِنْهُ، فَإِذَا حَدَّثَنِي بِهِ غَيْرِي اسْتَحْلَفْتُهُ، فَإِذَا حَلَفَ لِي صَدَّقْتُهُ، وَإِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي، وَصَدَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: «مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يُذْنِبُ ذَنْبًا، فَيَتَوَضَّأُ فَيُحْسِنُ الْوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَيَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ ﷿، إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ> It was narrated that Ali said: When I heard something from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), Allah benefitted me with whatever He willed from it. And if someone else informed me of something, I would ask them to swear to it. If they swore to it, I would believe them. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) told me, and Abu Bakr spoke the truth, that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: ‘If a person commits a sin, then performs ablution (wudu) and does it well, then prays two rak’ahs (units of prayer) and seeks forgiveness from Allah, Allah will forgive him### Context of this
- Ali lived at the time when the state of the Muslim was deteriorating, with the Khawarij and other groups, and ahadith were circulated around.
Why did some of the scholars of Hadith narrate from Khawarij like Bukhari?
the Khawarij never lied about the messenger, as they took major sins as kufr so they wouldn’t lie, as such Bukhari narrates from some of them
How were/are the Rafidah?
The Rafidah and Shia were pathological liars-every step of their belief is from a lie such as Imamah, when asked where this idea was in the Quran, they said the Quran was distorted, the mushaf of Fatima was lost and other nonsense. Whenever cornered they would find a lie to get out of it, as such when Hassan gave the Khilafa to Muawiyah the Rafidah found a loophole and said it was due to Taqqiyah.
