Lesson 8: How the companions valued the Quran Flashcards
Evidence for both the Quran and Sunnah being Wahy (revelation)
> By the star when it descends, Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is not but a revelation revealed
Najm 1-4
Statement of Ibn ‘Umar on how the companions learned the Quran
We used to live during a time when one of us would receive faith before the Quran. A surah would be revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him), and he would learn its permissible and prohibited matters and what should be adhered to in it just as you learn the Quran. Then he said: ‘I have seen men who were given the Quran, and they would recite it from its beginning to its end without knowing its commands, its prohibitions, or what should be adhered to in it. They scatter it like dried dates
Who was Abdurahman As-Sulami
Abu Abdurahman as Sulamee (84 AH) also known as Abdullah al Habib- he is from the kibar of the Tabieen and started teaching from the time of Uthman رضي الله عنه and even taught the prophet ﷺ grandchildren Hassan and Husayn. He transmitted the Hadith of uthman that the best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it, and said this Hadith is the reason he was teaching for 15* years
Statement of Abu Abdurahman As Sulami on how the companions learnt
As-Sulami:
<aside>
</aside>
> We took this Qur’an from a people of which were informed that if they learnt 10 verses, they wouldn’t go to the next ten until they knew what was in that they had already taken.
More addition:
<aside>

> Abu Abdur-Rahman al-Sulami (may Allah have mercy on him) said: ‘We took the Quran from people who told us that when they learned ten verses, they did not go beyond them until they applied what was in them. So, we used to learn the Quran and act upon it. After us, there will come people who will inherit the Quran and drink it like water, but it will not go beyond their throats
Value Abu Bakr and ‘Uthman gave to the Quran
- compilation of Quran by abu Bakr (13 AH) رضي الله عنه after the death of many of the huffadh/reciters during the war of apostasy
- Uthman (35 AH) رضي الله عنه united the Muslims and structured and organized and sent to every land of the Muslims a copy of his mushaf to unite them in the Quran.
