Lesson 8 Flashcards
endocarditis
inflammation of the endocardium
affects valves
chordae tendon
strep throat
goes all around even in heart and affects connective tissue
if left untreated can cause rheumatic fever
5-15 years
rheumatic infections
abnormal response to the bacterial infection
after healing valve function can be decreased (narrowing/problems opening/closing)
endocarditis most common valve
mitral
causes stenosis in valve
chordae tendinae is also affected (brown spots) affect valves
subacute
organisms of low virulence
acute
highly virulent organisms
clinical findings of endocarditis
murmur S1/S2
low grade fever (most common)
tachycardia
fatigue (since heart isn’t working properly)
crackles (PE)
endocarditis complications
heart failure
stroke
myocarditis
inflammation of the myocardium not caused by ischemia
systemic disorder
develops after rheumatic fever
interferes with pathway conduction
myocarditis clinical findings
dyspnea on exertion
myalgia, headache, fever tachy
chest pain
severe = heart failure/cardiogenic shock
myocarditis focused history
will have shortness of breath 7-10 days
can result in orthopnea
myocarditis complications
benign
myocarditis
comfort care
might result in ACS, CHF and sepsis
myocarditis/endocarditis similarities
both could have CHF
pericarditis is quite…
thin
