Lesson 7: Sex Linkage Flashcards
The phenotype of sex is determined by
a pair of chromosomes
The percentages of the punnet square of possible offspring for the sex pair is
50% male, 50% female
What’s the issue with male sex chromosomes?
The X and Y chromosomes are not homologous and are different sizes and genes.
What are some tragic consequences of the male chromosome?
males, since they have 1 X chromosome, any defective gene on that chromosome is expressed in the phenotype, recessive or not, there is no other copy of the gene.
female have 2 copies of the X chromosome and therfore 2 copies of each gene on that chromosome.
There are some traits and complications located on the X chromosome that occur overwhelmingly in
males.
