lesson 7 controlling body temperatures Flashcards
why does the body have to balance the energy gained and lost
to keep the core body temperature constant
there is a thermoregulatory centre in the brain, which contains what
receptors that are sensitive to the temperature of the blood flowing through the brain
the thermoregulatory centre also receives impulses from where
temperature receptors from the skin which gives information about skin temperature
what is sweat produced by
and what does sweat do
sweat glands
evaporates from the skin which transfers energy to the environment
the blood vessels supplying the skin do what
dilate so more blood flows close to the surface of the skin
when you’re too cold what do the hairs do
they stand up to trap an insulating layer of air
when you’re too cold is there sweat
no sweat is produced
blood vessels supplying skin capillaries do what
constrict to close of the skins blood supply (vasoconstriction)
when your cold you do what
shiver
shivering needs respiration which does what
transfers some energy to warm the body
when you shiver what do the muscles do
contract automatically
