A

They got rid of the ‘Grandfather Clause’ in the Supreme Court in 1915

Got the House of Representatives to vote in favour of passing anti-lynching bills in 1937 and 1940 (stopped in senate)

1941- sponsored a National Committee to Abolish the Poll Tax

1954: Brown vs Board of Education in Topeka

Factors that acted against the NAACP

A
  • Jim Crow Laws remained in the south
  • black urban poverty (run down ghettoes)
  • black workers were not members of trade unions so could not challenge unfair working conditions
  • many blacks lacked political knowledge
  • southern blacks were threatened by the KKK
