Print Device

Converts print jobs generated by applications into string of commands (PCL) for a specific print device.

Direct Printing
Computer supplies printer, printer driver and print server functions
Locally Attached Printer Sharing
Each client uses its own printer and printer driver. A single machine conducting Direct Printing shares the printer with hosts on the network.
EMF
Enhanced Metafile - standard job format. Default for Win 2000, XP, Server 2003.
XPS
XML Paper Specification - Platform-independent document format used with Win Server 08, Vista and up. Print job files are converte to XPS for their entire journey to the print device.
Network-Attached Printing
Print devices connected directly to and shared via the network.
Network-Attached Print Sharing
A single print server services all print clients and spools for a network-attached printer.
