LESSON 4 - LTS Flashcards
___ ___ are approaches that help to engage the instructors and students for an effective teaching and learning process.
Teaching strategies
- Lawton defines, “teaching strategy …”
is a generalized plan for a lesson(s) which include structure desired learner behavior in terms of goals of instructions and an outline of planned tactics necessary to implement the strategy.
DIFFERENT TEACHING STRATEGIES
- Discussion of Lesson Objectives
- Learner-Centered
- The Use of Visual Aids
- Modeling
- Cooperative Learning
- Student as a Teacher
- Experiential Learning
- The Use of Graphic Organizers
- Instead of letting your students figure out what they should learn by themselves, tell them—clearly, state goals and lesson objectives.
Discussion of Lesson Objectives
- The students get involved in the learning process by asking questions and working together to solve the problems.
- The class may work together to identify and report the answer.
Learner-Centered
- Some learners can absorb information by listening to a lecture alone and have a deep understanding of it. Others are visual learners and need a bit more.
The Use of Visual Aids
- A few examples of visual aids are:
PowerPoint, white or blackboard, paper handouts, and flipcharts.
- After you tell the students what to do, it is necessary to demonstrate how you get it done.
Modeling
____ how you expect them to finish an assignment, so they will understand what they should do. This will help your visual learners, as well.
Model
- A systematic pedagogical strategy that encourages small groups of students to work together to achieve a common goal.
Cooperative Learning
- The term ____ ____ is often used as a synonym for cooperative learning when, in fact, it is a different strategy.
‘Collaborative Learning’
It encompasses a broader range of group interactions such as developing learning communities, stimulating student/faculty discussions, and encouraging electronic exchanges (Bruffee, 1993).
Collaborative Learning
- When students are the instructor for the day, they learn things they did not have discovered yet.
Student as a Teacher
- Students are learning from doing, so you can create experiences to see the concepts in action.
- In a safe environment, allow them to practice the concepts.
Experiential Learning
- Graphic organizers like pie charts and Venn diagrams are an excellent way to show details visually.
- It would also help them appreciate relations as well as recognizing similarities and differences.
The Use of Graphic Organizers
