Lesson 34 Flashcards
Handoff
action taken to transfer the radar identification of an a/c from one controller to another if the a/c will enter the receiving controller’s airspace and radio communications with the a/c WILL be transferred
Radar contact
used to inform the controller initiating a handoff that the a/c is identified and approval is granted for the a/c to enter the receiving controller’s airspace
point out
physical or automated action taken by a controller to transfer the radar identification of an a/c to another controller if the a/c will or may enter the airspace of another controller and radio communications WILL NOT be transferred
transfer communication when
- handoff has been accepted and before the a/c enters the receiving controllers airspace
initiate verbal coordination when
- cst
- fail
- none
before accepting a handoff…
- ensure the target position corresponds with the position given by the transferring controller
- issue necessary restrictions
obtain approval from the transferring controller and/or any intervening controller through whose area the a/c will pass before changing the a/cs…
- heading/route
- altitude
- speed
- beacon code
after accepting a handoff, confirm the identity of a primary target by…
advising the a/c of its position
after accepting a handoff confirm the identity of a beacon target by…
- observing code change
- ident reply
- standby squawk
initiate verbal coordination prior to accepting control of a track when the data block displays…
- cst
- none
- old
- data
four ways to transfer radar identification for handoffs
- physical
- interphone
- automated (controller)
- automatic (computer)
