Lesson 3: Theories of Creation Flashcards
God, the Supreme
Being created the
whole universe out
of nothing.
Creationist Theory
A primordial
explosion called the
Big Bang occurred
around 15 billion
years ago which
created the
universe.
Big Bang Theory
The expansion of the
universe will
eventually come to halt
then it collapses up to
the time that the
universe will return to
its original form and
another Big Bang will
occur.
Oscillating Universe Theory
Qualifications to be a planet
- must be round
- must orbit the sun
- must have “cleared the neighborhood” of its orbit
Terrestrial Planets
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
Five similarities between Earth, Venus, and Mars
- terrestrial planets made of solid rocks and silicate
- have an atmosphere
- almost have the same time to rotate on their axes
- have carbon dioxide
- have landforms
Similarities between Earth and Mars
They both have water
Three differences between Earth, Venus, and Mars
- Venus has no water
- Venus and Mars don’t have oxygen
- Earth has life forms
Jovian Planets
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
Outermost planet in the solar system
Pluto
Kupier Belt is located:
After Neptune
Small rocky, icy or iron
debris flying in space.
Asteroids
Asteroid Belt is located:
Between Mars and Jupiter
Small asteroids.
Meteroids
Difference between meteoroid and asteroid
- Meteoroid are either a grain of dust or have a diameter of 1 meter/3 feet.
- Asteroids are 1 meter up to 1000km/620 miles
Difference between meteoroid, meteor, and meteorite
- Meteoroids are in space
- Meteoroids are in the atmosphere
- Meteorites are in Earth/ground
These are small body of
rock, iron, ice and gases
that orbit the sun in
elliptical orbits.
Comet
Comet vs Asteroid
- Asteroids are made up of metals and rocky material
- Comets are made up of ice, dust and rocky material.
Glowing ball of gas-like
material called plasma.
Sun
It is the Earth’s only
natural satellite which
is visible by the
reflection of sunlight
Moon
Three things that make the Earth unique
Water, atmosphere, and plate tectonics
Parts of Earth’s internal structure
Crust, Mantle, and Core
Five layers of the Earth
Continental crust, upper mantle, lower mantle, outer core, and inner core
Length of Continental Crust
8-40km
Length of Upper Mantle
600 km
Length of Lower Mantle
2250 km
Length of Outer Core
2250 km
Length of Inner Core
1300 km
