Lesson 3: Properties of Water Flashcards
What are 6 properties of water?
High Surface Tension
Cohesion
Adhesion
Universal Solvent
High heat capacity
Changes in Density
What does cohesion and adhesion?
Cohesion means it sticks well together attracts to other water molecules.
Adhesion: Sticks well with other molecules as well.
What charge does oxygen and hydrogen have in water?
Oxygen: Has a slight net negative charge.
Hydrogen: Has a small net positive charge.
What is represented by a hydrogen bond?
It is represented by a dotted line because it is weak and broken easily.
Approximately how much of the human body is water?
Approximately 70%
How can substances enter/cross the cell membrane of our cells?
Only substances dissolved in water can enter (ex. Glucose, amino acids)
