Lesson 2: Homeostais Negative And Positive Feedback Flashcards
What is Homeostasis?
The ability to maintain a constant internal environment in response to environmental changes.
What are the 3 functional components in homeostatic control systems?
Receptor
Control Centre (Brain)
Effector
What is meant by negative feedback?
By opposing or counteracting changes in the body to bring things back to normal.
What is meant by positive feedback?
It continues to take the body away further away from normal conditions. Usually ends up with something being ejected from the body.
Which feedback does NOT bring an adaptive response that cancels the stimulus?
Positive feedback, causes the stimulus to be increased.
Which feedback system is more common in the body?
Negative feedback
What is the one example of positive feedback you have to remember for in Biology 12?
Human birth and oxytocin. Causes stronger contractions.
What is the order of negative feedback.
- Stimulus
- Receptor
- Control Center
- Effector (Adaptive Response)
- Normalcy (Returns to normal)
What are some examples of negative feedback?
Blood pressure, pH levels, Body temperature.
What is a stable body temperature
36.4 - 37.6 Celsius
39 Celsius go to hospital
What is a stable amount of glucose
70/100 mg/dl
Give an example using the negative feedback cycle
- Power outage
- Generator detects power outage
- Generators system activates
- Generator turns on
- Power comes back on
