Lesson 3 Flashcards
Cell
The smallest unit of life itself
Cell theoryb
- All living things are composed of 1 or more cells
- A cell is the basic unit of organization in all organisms.
- All cells come from existing cells
Modern cell theory
- Cells use and transfer energy
- Hereditary information is passed from cell to cell
- All cells have the same basic composition
Tissue
A group of cells connected together to carry out a specific function
Organ
Several types of tissues that work together ti perform a function
Organ system
A group of organs cooperating to perform a function
Prokaryotic
A single celled organisim
Eukaryotic
The types of cells in multicellular organisms
Plasma membrane
The membrane
around the cell that Matains homeostasis
Phospholipid
Hydrophilic head 2 hydrophobic tails
Passive transport
No energy needed
Active transport
Energy needed
Cytoplasm
The fluid that fills the cytosol
Organelles
Little organs inside the cell which interact with each other and function to keep the cell running smoothly
Ribosome
Smallest and most numerous organelles makes proteins and RNA
Either float freely in the cytoplasm or attached to the endoplasamic reticulum
