Statement of Sufyan Ibn Uyaynah on the virtue of Seerah

A

SufyanibnUyaynahsaid,“Indeed,theMessengerofAllah,peaceandblessingsbeuponhim,isthegreatestscale.Thingsarepresentedagainsthischaracter,conduct,andguidance.Whatalignswithitisthetruth,andwhatcontradictsitisfalsehood.”

So the scale for us is the messenger ﷺ that is used to scale everyone’s character, conduct, actions and so on. Whatever is in line with it is correct, whatever isn’t is falsehood

So, in order to scale everyone speech and actions to the prophet ﷺ we need to know his life.

Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Hakim al-Naysaburi on the virtue of Seerah

A

“This type of knowledge encompasses the understanding of the military campaigns of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), his expeditions, his letters to the kings of the polytheists, what is authentic and what is not, how each companion performed in those battles before him—who remained firm, who fled, who showed cowardice in battle, who fought bravely, who was loyal to supporting him (peace be upon him), who hypocritized, how the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) distributed the spoils, who increased or decreased, how he allocated the spoils between two or three people, and how he enforced the limits regarding theft. These are types of knowledge no scholar can do without.”

Statements of Abu Muhammed Ibn hazm on the virtue of Seerah

A

Abu Muhammed Ibn Hazm, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “Whoever desires the good of the hereafter, the wisdom of this world, just conduct, and the encompassing of all good morals and the attainment of all virtues, let him emulate Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and follow his morals and way of life as much as he can. May Allah help us in emulating him, by His grace, Ameen.”

So if we want to have the best life, family and so on, we should learn from his ﷺ’s seerah.

Ibn Hazm said: “The life of Muhammad (peace be upon him) for those who reflect upon it, necessarily requires believing in him, and testifies that he is truly the Messenger of Allah. If he had no other miracle than his life, it would suffice.”

Statement of Ibn Jawzi on the virtue of Seerah

A

Ibn al-Jawzi said: “I have seen that engaging in jurisprudence and hearing hadiths is barely enough for the rectification of the heart unless it is mixed with the tender reflections and looking into the lives of the righteous predecessors, and the best of all lives is the life of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions).” He also said: “The foundation of all foundations is knowledge, and the most beneficial of knowledge is looking into the lives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions. Allah Almighty said: {Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example} (Al-An’am: 90).”

Statement of Abual-Qasimal-Suhayli on the virtue of Seerah

A

Abu al-Qasim al-Suhayli said in “Al-Rawd Al-Unuf”: “This is a summary that eager souls yearn to know, and hearts of the well-mannered rejoice in discussing. Everything related to the knowledge of our Prophet and connected to the news of his biography pleases the ears and stirs the spirits of loving natures. Praise be to Allah for what He has taught us of that.”

This connects to the statement of Imam az-Zuhri:

In the knowledge of military expeditions (the seerah), there is knowledge of the hereafter and the world.”

Q

Statement of Muwaffaqal-DinAbdal-Latifal-Baghdadion the virtue of Seerah

A

Muwaffaq al-Din Abd al-Latif al-Baghdadi said, “Your conduct should be like the conduct of the early followers. Read the biography of the Prophet (peace be upon him), follow his actions and states, and emulate him as much as you can and to the best of your ability.”

So, what’s required from everyone is to follow the early generations, and read the prophetic Seerah, then follow his actions, and tread the path that he treaded, and try to imitate him as much as one’s able to.
