Lesson 19 - Reliability Flashcards
Reliability
The consistency of a research study or a measuring test
Internal and External reliability
Internal Reliability
The extent so which a measure is consistent within itself
The split-half method assesses the internal reliability of a test
Measures extent to which all parts of the test contribute equally to what is being measured
Done by comparing results of one half of a test with results from other
If two halves provide similar results, it has internal reliability
External Reliability
Extent to which a measure varies from one use to another
Test-retreat involves giving participants same test on two separate occasions
Similar results => external reliability
Inter-rather reliability researchers observe same behaviour independently
If similar, data has external reliability
0.8 correlation needed between test and re-test
