Lesson 16 - Sign Test Flashcards
1
Q
Inferential Statistics
A
Not possible to test all theories relating to population
Sample population is taken and findings are inferred for the rest of the population
Inferential statistics used to see if results are significant
Work out probability that something occurs independent of the IV
Accepted level of probability is p<5%
At this level, researcher accepts the alternative hypothesis
2
Q
When to use a Sign Test
A
Used when there is one group of participants (repeated measures design) and when the data is numerical (quantitative)
3
Q
How to do a Sign Test
A
State the hypothesis Record data and work out the sign Find calculated value Find critical value If hypothesis is directional, check results are in the expected direction
