lesson 17- inter relationship between water and carbon cycles Flashcards
erosion
water in rivers erodes river banks and ‘flushes out’ organic matter from the soil. This is carried down the river into the oceans store (38,000 PTC)
evaporation
CO2-> greenhouse effect, so more water absorbs heat, evaporates and causes tropical storms -> more rainfall -> more erosion (Loop)
photosynthesis
H20 + CO2 are needed for plants to store carbon and release oxygen, and absorb and use water
decomposition
microorganisms need water to thrive and break down organic matter, releasing carbon dioxide
carbon dioxide effect on stomatas
higher carbon dioxide level- stomata contracts and water is held inside the plant
-reduces transpiration and plants take in less water from the environment as they have more inside them
