Lesson 16 Flashcards
How can water supply be managed for agriculture?
• Contour ploughing - Using slopes when ploughing which reduces run-off but not suitable for flat land
• Cover crops - Growing legumes, white turnips etc rotated with cash crops to blanket soil, reducing evap rates
• Watering during mornings or night when transpiration is lowest
How about domestically?
• Displacement bag - Used in cistern of toilet which reduces volume of water per flush
• Grey water - Recycling used but uncontaminatd water
• Dual-flush toilets - Control output of water
• Water meters - Make people more aware of their water usage
• Fixing leaks - Approx. 3 billion litres of water lost to leaks in England and Wales
