French Protestants during persecution against French Catholics
Puritans
English Protestants who were very serious about religion - strict laws.

Versailles
They built the palace of Versailles outside of Paris, spent millions to create a place, and organized ceremonies to demonstrate the importance of nobles. Ruled for 72 years

Cousin to Queen Elizabeth l and ruled like an absolute monarchy. He didnt ask Parliament for the money he wanted.
Levee
A formal assembly where nobles competed for honor for helping King Loius XIV get dressed

King of England: Actions of dissolving the Parliament led to the English Civil War, Led to execution.
Divine Right
Belief that ruler authority comes directly from God

Ruler has complete authority; parliament there but has no real power

Insured the superiority of parliament over the monarchy, abolished excessive fines and cruel unjust punishments, and affirmed principle of habitus corpus.

The overthrow of James ll by the parliament because they feared he would bring back the Roman Catholic Church

Respected parliament and became way less strict (When King Charles ll became king)
