Q

What is a UX Designers?

A

Someone who investigates and analyzes how their users feel about their products. They then apply this knowledge to product development in order to ensure that the user has the best possible experience with a product.

13
Q

What is a Self-focused design?

A

Designers act as representatives of the user base. They design for themselves and make the assumption that their users think and feel in the same way as them.

Q

What is an Experience-based design?

A

Experience-based design builds on UCD, if you have a highly experienced team of designers and developer then you can use experience-based design to cut corners.

Q

What is an Activity-oriented design?

A

Sometimes the design and development team won’t be familiar with a particular activity. If a project is a “first of its kind” within your organization then it can be useful to map out the activities you expect users to conduct. The team can then work through these activities to get a better understanding of the product itself. This technique can be used as well as UCD or in place of it if the project is a small functional change in an existing product.

16
Q

T or F: UCD is the only methodology in UX.

A

False. UCD may be the most valuable methodology but there’s also self-focused, experience-based, and activity-oriented design.

17
Q

Which development method moves all activity in the project from one stage to the next and each activity is fully documented and signed off before the next activity begins?

A

Waterfall Development

18
Q

Which development method goes through a quick development cycle then followed by a quick review and then another development cycle? (repeated as many times as necessary)

A

Agile Development

19
Q

What are the six tips for getting UX Embedded within the Development Team?

A
  1. Start Early - before the development team get involved in the project, you should be prepared to demonstrate the value of UX design.
  2. Develop Relationships - talk to the whole team, sell yourself and the benefits of a UX design approach.
  3. Play for the Team - Attend meetings. Be a part of the development process. Don’t just hand over your designs and hope for the best.
  4. Work in Parallel with Development - Have your wireframes ready before development begins and then work on interactions during an Agile sprint prior to the interaction being developed.
  5. Keep Testing - If you’re not testing regularly problems are going to creep in. Make sure that you don’t let the development diverge too far from the design before you pull things back in line with the UX design scope.
  6. Be Inclusive - UX is everyone’s responsibility; if you clearly communicate your vision and reasons for UX, it’s very likely that you’ll be able to turn others into UX ambassadors too.

Q

What are Don Norman’s three levels of design?

A
  1. Visceral Design
  2. Behavioral Design
  3. Reflective Design
21
Q

According to Don Norman, which of the three levels of emotional system is responsible for conscious thought?

A

Reflective Design

22
Q

What is Visceral Design?

A

“Concerns itself with appearances”. This level of design refers to the perceptible qualities of the object and how they make the user/observer feel.

23
Q

What is Behavioral Design?

A

“Concerns itself with pleasure and effectiveness of use”. Refers to the practical and functional aspects of a product of anything usuable we are capable of using in our environment.

24
Q

What is Reflective Design?

A

“Considers the rationalization and intellectualization of a product”. Judging a product according to our more naunaced and rational side. Determining what it means to us as an individual.

25
Q

Out of the three levels of emotional system what is the highest level of emotional design and why?

A

Reflective design because it represents the conscious thought layer, where we consciously approach a design; weighing up its pros and cons.

26
Q

According to Don Norman’s model of emotion and design, Visceral and Behavioral processing are both…?

A

Unconscious

27
Q

A behavioral experience can influence…

A

Both the visceral and reflective experiences

28
Q

What are the two development methodologies used by software development teams?

A
  1. Waterfall Development 2. Agile Development
29
Q

What is a Waterfall Development?

A

All activity in the project moves from one stage to the next and each activity is fully documented and signed off before the next activity begins.

30
Q

What is an Agile Development?

A

A rapid application development. Often implemented using Scrum. An iterative, team-based approach to development. Agile relies on a very high level of customer involvement throughout the project, but especially during these reviews.

31
Q

UX design is often perceived as

A

“big design work up front”

32
Q

What are the UX Activities before development begins?

A
  • Business requirements capture
  • Analysis of context and competition
  • Use case modeling
  • User persona development
  • Wireframe modeling
33
Q

What are the UX Activites during the sprint 0 phase?

A

• Develop the wireframes for Sprint 1

34
Q

What are the UX Activites during the sprint 1 phase?

A
  • Support UX through current Sprint
  • Develop wireframes for sprint 2
  • Prepare for UAT(User Acceptance Testing)
35
Q

What are the UX Activites during the sprint 2 phase?

A
  • Support UX through current Sprint
  • Develop wireframes for the next Sprint
  • Conduct user testing and prepare for further UAT
36
Q

What are the UX Activites during the final sprint phase?

A
  • Support UX through current Sprint

* Conduct user tests

37
Q

Why is UX design sometimes perceived as incompatible with Agile development?

A

UX design is usually started prior to development so it contradicts the principles of Agile. Agile development occurs in quick development cycles and followed by a quick review. And these steps are iterated as many times as needed.

38
Q

What do you think are the main benefits of a UX Design approach which features UCD?

A

The main benefit of a UX design approach featuring UCD is that the end user is always being considered and this means the product is more likely to succeed when it is deployed. Without consulting the users of the product during the UX design it is possible to create a product that either nobody wants/needs or that people find it difficult/confusing to use, and therefore stop using it.

39
Q

What are the 6 main career branches for UX designers?

A
  • User Research
  • Usability Analyst
  • Information Architect
  • Interaction Designer
  • Visual Designer
  • UX Designer
