Q

What’s the relation between special revelation, general revelation, and common grace w/”seed of religion”, non-Christian’s knowing surface knowledge, and Scripture.

A

Scripture is God’s special revelation to us. This is the supreme authority on life, especially in matters of salvation. He has also revealed himself in the world through his general revelation, this is what Calvin means by the seed of religion that has been implanted in everyone’s hearts. God shows his common grace by giving non-Christians surface knowledge about things.

    • Ultimate arguments - Special Revelation
    • Proximate arguments - General REvelation (car repair, running a business, etc.)

Q

Explain Cara’s point that a Reformed hermeneutic is both: (1) antithetical to views that do not acknowledge Chirst for ultimate issues and (2) potentially accommodating to all views for proximate issues.

A

– Due to common grace insights, other Christian traditions and non-Christians have something to teach us, however when it comes to ultimate issues Christ is the ultimate issue with life and salvation (John 17:3).

Q

Concerning the nightly news, give two examples of Modernism and two examples of Post-Modernism in a typical broadcast

A

Modernism

  1. ) Reason and Truth
  2. ) Content over Medium - although some changes have happened to present the news in a newer fashion, the basic principles are still there, where their main objective is to get the news across; not flashy or really fancy.

Postmodernism

  1. ) Picture oriented over word-oriented
  2. ) Subjective over objective - more how do you feel pieces, stories (60 minutes), polls, more on how you reacted to the news than what the news actually is
