What is behavior?
the whole range of observable and measurable actions of a living animal
What are the ABCs of ABA?
antecedent, behavior, consequence
What is another term for ABC
3-term contingency
What is an antecedent?
any stimulus that comes before behavior
What is a consequence?
what comes after we behave
What is the law of effect?
behaviors followed by immediate pleasurable consequences will be more likely to increase in the future (AKA reinforcement)
behaviors followed by immediate unpleasurable consequences will be more likely to decrease in the future (AKA punishment)
What is reinforcement?
any stimulus that follows behavior that increases frequency of that behavior in the future
What are conditioned reinforcers?
something that acquired reinforcing values by being paired with existing reinforcers
What are unconditioned reinforcers?
warmth, food, drink, touch, sleep
- something innate we want, not taught
What are the 2 forms of reinforcement?
positive and negative reinforcement
What is negative reinforcement?
something you don’t like goes away so behavior increases
What is positive reinforcement?
something you like gets added so behavior increases
